The Kodaly Center of Holy Names University is affiliated with theĀ American Folklife Center of the Library of Congress. The Hungarian Composer Zoltan Kodaly was a pioneer in providing new approaches to teaching music to children using folk songs. This site allows teachers and interested musicians to search a large collection of songs, complete with musical transcriptions, based on a wide array of critical musical parameters.

This is actually Version 2 of this site. It was originally built in 2004 (!) after receiving a generous grant from the William and Florence Hewlett Foundation. Ten years later, the site was still an important, if technically outdated, resource. The Foundation generously supported the creation of this second version, which uses HTML5 standards and is fully responsive.

We built a custom back end to power the data and search capability, and reengineered the administrative interface to facilitate data entry.
